Perfect for our 5 year old. Our 7 year old recently got the original Spirograph which wasn't very difficult for the rest of us, but our 5 year old had trouble keeping the gear teeth engaged (which understandably frustrated him). This junior version has wider teeth, making it easier to work with small hands that are still developing fine motor skills. It's a good size for everyday use, yet compact enough to take with you on the go. The storage space holds the gears and markers together with the base, while the top snaps onto the paper to hold it in place. He has no problem with it and likes to use his younger version while his older brother uses the original.
