Review on Versatile Manzella Cascade Convertible Gloves in Medium Size for Optimal Performance by Justin Herman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Photographer's Note: Great gloves/mittens for shooting in the cold.

As a photographer, I'm always looking for ways to keep my hands warm when photographing winter scenes. I use my Thinsulate hunting gloves and a lighter cycling glove. Hunting gloves are warm and I can operate my Nikon 610, D7000 and Canon 70D without removing my gloves. But sometimes you have to take off your gloves to access things in the bag or operate other drives on the camera. Robert Rodriguez Jr., a landscape photographer, blogged about his winter gear and mentioned Manzella's convertible gloves. When I received them it was 27 degrees with a cold 17 degree wind. Not only did they keep my hands warm, but they also allowed me to press the back focus buttons and release the shutter button without opening my hand. I couldn't operate the rear dial with my thumb and it was the perfect moment to take off part of the mitten to check the battery level and review the shot I'd just taken. Absolutely satisfied with this test run. Pros: The label on the glove states that it is a Manzella Cascade Convertible/Convertible Fleece glove labeled "Warmest" in a size M/L. I ordered a large size and it fits perfectly (I'm not sure about the M/L label). When you slide the mitten back, this glove uses Velcro to keep part of the mitten on the glove. I was happy with velcro because some other convertibles use magnets. Some reviewers complained about tightness around the toes, but that wasn't an issue for me. I didn't open my thumb as it wasn't necessary. Very warm - fleece does not let through drafts from mittens. 280 g microfleece, 40 g Thinsulate insulation and fleece lining. Well done. I didn't notice any manufacturing defects. Only one. Some convertibles have a pull tab on the finger cover that can be used to remove the glove. You don't have a tab. I will update my review when I can test teenagers and if there are any design issues.
