Works much better than I expected. When used correctly, I don't see any distortion, color fringing or loss of sharpness on my Nikon D7000. When shooting wide open, I noticed some color fringing in out-of-focus areas closer to the edge of the frame. I tested with two lenses: Nikkor 18-105 AF-S and Nikkor 70-300 AF-S. I found this filter very handy at 18-105 for close-up photography, but at the long end of 70-300 it really turns the camera into a microscope. You cannot photograph anything larger than a small coin or more than a few inches from the camera. I found the depth of field at 300mm to be so shallow that I had to shoot at f/40 and a slow shutter speed to get a decent test shot. strawberries With a shorter FL, decent shots of round subjects can be achieved from f/8 to f/16. Much lower than f/8 only works on flat objects or artistic blur effects. In most cases, autofocus works quite well if you first place the camera very close to where the focus should be.
