We bought them to camp in the mountains next to the river. These are the only shoes my daughter wore for the entire trip, even on the hikes! They didn't tear, they were very tight but not tight and they were strong. The bottom has thick rubber that doesn't add much weight and won't rub your feet even with a thick brush. They slipped a little more in the water, and she took them off as she paddled because the water got between the soles of her feet and the actual boot and slowed her down. In the end a good buy. Also, if anyone cares, they fade very quickly when they dry in the sun.
