I bought 2 of these, one for my wall phone at my house and one for my elderly aunt who lives out of town. My elderly aunt loved answering the phone but claimed to have lost them all to lightning strikes. Because I love my aunt and wanted to do her some good, I bought her a digital phone with answering machine and one of these surge protectors to protect her new phone. That was 6 months ago. Two days ago we had strong winds, thunderstorms and tornadoes in the area where we live. My aunt called me the next day in tears and said she no longer needed digital phones with answering machines. because she just lost someone else. I asked her how she knew she lost him. She said she was in the next room when she heard a very loud bang and when she checked her phone there was no dial tone but the phone itself caught fire. Now you have to understand that my aunt is in her seventies and doesn't understand how technical things work. When she first got this surge protector for her phone, she had a friend who had retired from the phone company install a fuse for her - so little did she know how to connect it.
