I don't know how they identified this 8 watt unit. I ran parallel tests with a 3 watt, 5 watt and this unit with a decibel meter. This unit was more like my 3 watt unit and my 5 watt unit was significantly louder with better bass. I was really looking forward to this device as it is the first 8 watt device of this size that I have seen. The location of the controls, which are located on the curved part of the bottom, is also inconvenient. And to make matters worse, the icon IDs for these controls are cast in a curved black area so you literally CANNOT see them. Bad design concept. UPDATE 12/11/20: I recently re-tested this unit and it sounded louder than I remembered. A little louder than my 5 watts. The input volume of the device I was using may not have been set to full. my apologies But the comments relate to: The controls still apply. I've raised my original rating by one star. However, this speaker is currently "unavailable".
