I ordered this for my 9 year old son based on the good reviews after suffering some ankle sprains. I determined the size the first time based on his shoe size and reviews. He is youth 5. I ordered XS. The bottom velcro was too short. I called the company to get the dimensions. You should measure the circumference of the ankle, but from the heel around to the forefoot with the toe. It measured 11.5 inches, which is small. I have reordered. The little one was easy to put on but the bottom strap is still too short. The only velcro for this strap is too far inside the ankle. If you pull him far enough to fasten him, he'll tuck in his ankle. So when he walks, he seems to be walking on the inside of the foot. This would be a great brace if there was more velcro to secure the bottom strap in a better position. It was on his right ankle. This pulls the left outward.
