When I start a project, I focus too much on what I'm doing. I tried to "split" my time into different segments, but found I was spending too much time on one segment. This resulted in a faster remaining time for additional segments. The timer allows you to set the time you wish to devote to a segment (it's very easy to set) and provides a visual guide of how much time is left in your segment with a slowly fading colored 60 minute analog dial. It's a little "boost" that keeps you focused on what you're doing and on the right track. This is the advantage it gives you over other countdown timers. Another plus, it has a beep that doesn't bother and only beeps for about two or three seconds. (No rushing to turn off that pesky buzzer.) I bought the smaller version (about the size of a small portable alarm clock), so I carry it to work, home, or work. Now I've become much more productive.
