Review on Stewart Naturals Fresh Freeze Dried Dogs in Food by Barbara Freeman

A good product, second to Stella & Chewys

12/27/19. I bought medium sized patties about the same size as Stella and Chewy patties. For $14 I got 16 Stuart patties. For $30 I got about 30 Stella and Chewy Pies. So there's a small $2 saving, but I think I can save more in the long run by subscribing to Stella & Chewy. Additionally, I believe that Stella & Chewy is of higher quality, organic ingredients and animal welfare; what is really important to me. Edit 11/15/19 - I went back to add an extra star. My puppies seem to really like this food. The ingredients are well thought out. I've also noticed that the pies I've been using lately are more like Stella and Chewy in texture. Stella and Chewie hit or missed. Sometimes your patties will look fresher if the soaking water has a red tint. The water is fairly clear in this batch, just like the batch of Stuart Patties I bought. Breaking the patties into quarters also makes them easier to moisten. The price is good and it helps me stretch my Stella and Chewy patties which are very expensive. One star off because the ingredients are neither organic nor humane. I will definitely continue to buy Stuart Pies. The ingredients are well thought out, made and sourced in the USA, and it feels like their heart-shaped patties are a message to consumers that they really care and are proud of. First Review: I bought this as an alternative to Stella & CHEWY Brand. I'm a big fan of Stella & Chewy's because it's 100% organic, meat comes first, all animals are treated humanely, no unnecessary starchy fillers, and my dogs love it. I find Stewart and Stella & Chewy freeze-dried patties to be healthier than canned and pelleted ones. As far as I can cook their own food. I subscribe and save monthly for a 25 ounce pack of Stella and Chewy through Revain, but it still adds to the cost of having two dogs. I only feed them cake for breakfast and canned food in the evening. The S&C pack I get once a month only lasts 20 days, not a full month, so I decided to buy Stewart's freeze dried cakes. While Stewart's doesn't have a lot of fruits and veggies, I appreciate that the ingredients are also free of starchy fillers (except for flaxseed meal). Meat is the first ingredient and I love that it includes healthy gut meat as well. I'm excited about the ingredients. The only problem is that they are not organic and I don't know if animals are treated humanely. Stewart patties are definitely less expensive than Stella & Chewy. I have bought small pies and yet they are much more difficult to moisten than Stella & Chewy. Stewart patties are thicker but smaller, drier, and denser. They are also paler in color. In comparison, Stewart's patties turn into mush, while Stella and Chewie's patties have more meat and a mince-like consistency. This leads me to believe it may not have as much muscle mass as Stella & Chewy. Finally, Stewart's pie juice is like drab tone while Stella & Chewy's is a red tone that I think is blood. What I expected from raw materials. Maybe I got an old batch? Best by 8/11/21 so I'm guessing they're fresh. Maybe it's all about flaxseed? I don't blame the Stewart brand, I just think it's not that high quality. My dogs don't take to it as quickly as Stella & Chewy's either. I would, however, repurchase Stewart's brand pies to extend my purchases from Stella & Chewy. I give my two 10 pound dogs a Stella & Chewy patty and half a Stewart patty in the morning. I think it's a good compromise. And a great way to stretch your bucks if you choose to feed raw freeze dried.
