Review on Razer Barracuda X Wireless Gaming & Mobile Headset (PC, Playstation, Switch, Android, IOS): 2022 Model - 2.4GHz Wireless + Bluetooth - Lightweight 250G - 40Mm Drivers - 50 Hour Battery - Black by Tim Sterling

Closed headset. I don't like closed headsets. BUT.

You know what? This one actually isn't bad. The cloth-like texture around the earpieces, while not completely breathable, is better than the pleather that most of the closed headsets seem to like. If Razer sold an additional WASHABLE cloth cover that fit these (preferably cotton with some small % of spandex/elastic material to ensure fit) I'd buy it in a heartbeat. The boom mic picks up everything, but I WANT it to pick up everything. That's what NVIDIA Broadcast noise reduction is for. Nobody has ever complained that they can't hear me while using this.I can leave the wireless connected to the computer (a bit awkwardly) via the long-dongle. That's right, I said long-dongle. It's a very sturdy long-dongle cord that could probably withstand a nuke and be fine. And while that wireless is connected, I can still connect to the work computer or my phone via Bluetooth and the calls on those will take priority and switch back to the computer audio when they're done. The audio quality is fine. I didn't download and test their surround-whatever software, because I don't need it. I prefer old skool games where we're lucky to have stereo sound. I can hear people just fine on phone calls and the fact that there is a volume dial on the headset itself that I can't accidentally bump or accidentally swivel is amazing. I don't have to find my phone to adjust the incoming volume or to mute myself because the mute button on the headset isn't a software mute, it's a hardware mute. The "triple-click the power button to activate wireless" thing isn't great. You have to use it to "initialize" the wireless after it's been off, at least sometimes. And sometimes the triple-clicking doesn't even work and I have to do it several times to get it to acknowledge. This is not an issue with the hardware, it's an issue with the firmware, and I don't believe there's any way to upgrade that on this headset. This thing is solid, not perfect. I would give it a 4.5, but that isn't an option, so I'm rounding up. Yeah, it's bulky. Quality means bulk. Embrace it.

Pros
  • 9.6 ounces
Cons
  • Perhaps the most obvious drawback of the Razer Barracuda X headset is its price, which may be too high for some prospective buyers
