Review on πŸ’§ MSR MiniWorks EX Microfilter Water Filter: Unmatched Purity and Portability by Gary Reed

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Like squeezing water out of a stone.

First let me say that I have a lot of filters at home. PUR, Lifestraw, UV, Sawyer, etc. I was excited to try MSR. We took it for a 5 day hike and it's good. I was very disappointed with the MSR EX filter. Bottom line, it doesn't filter as fast as other comparable filters (same size pumps) on the market. I used it alongside my old polyurethane filter to see which one fills the standard 32oz faster. Nalgae. The PUR ran out and the MSR was only about 1/3 full. So I notice that the air intake pulled a lot of water into the chamber, but when I dove down to force the water through the filter, a lot of water flowed back up the intake tube and only a trickle entered the chamber. my bottle. I re-read the instructions, played with the air intake, sanded the ceramic and checked the gaskets. Will not work. Speed has increased slightly, but significant pressure is being thrown into the intake pipe rather than through the filter. Pros: The pump handle is great and easy to use. The screw for standard Nalgene caps is very convenient (also fits many other popular brands like my Contigo). Cons: speed. The air intake valve needs to be adjusted every time you use it, and sometimes it's a big pain to use. countercurrent. I will avoid the ceramic filter in the future. I don't like cleaning it after each use and then measuring if I'm fine (slight minus).
