It took me about seven minutes to set up this system to control some outdoor lights. You use your smartphone for setup. The two outputs are individually adjustable and offer more performance for the money. Both can be activated manually via a smartphone app or via a home automation platform. We're an Apple family, so I used my iPhone to set it up and connect it to my HomeKit hub at home (Apple TV) for secure internet access and programming features. . The Apple Homekit allowed me to set up an automation so that one of the outlets on this unit (for the outdoor lights in our case) would turn on every night at sundown, automatically adjusting for the time of year and daylight saving time. The outlet is then set to turn off automatically at 10:30 every night. We will use the second socket for Christmas lights. It replaces the high-end street clock that used to fail due to power outages and of course the onset and end of Daylight Saving Time. (It was "high-end" in the sense that this model is rated to last over 18 months, which in my experience cheaper timers don't.) The old timer is in a very awkward spot, so remote control and programmability (via HomeKit) of this device really solves a lot of problems! Physically, it's just a solid power cord with a plug on one end and a power strip on the other. It is not heavy and can be easily hung on a wall socket. Installation is not required, recommended! If there are any problems, I will update this review. At first glance, a solid five.
