Convenient for use in photographing news events. Best for going places. Of course, you can't expect him to take a masterpiece, but at F/4, that makes sense. Who cares about portraits when he may use a larger aperture and a longer focal length? Although not great, a portrait with some focus and blur at 105 mm is doable. The stabilizer is there, but you shouldn't use it. The image including him is far less desirable. On a full frame, you can even increase the ISO to 6400 without any noise being introduced into the image. Many times I considered selling it and purchasing a 24-70 F/2.8 instead, but each time I remembered that the 24-70 would not provide me with the benefits that the 24-105 does. The best option is to wait till you have enough money to buy two lenses. They serve different objectives, and I don't see the point in drawing comparisons between them even if many others do. Whatever the case may be, this is a high-quality lens that excels at its stated objectives.
