Don't get discouraged if you don't get it right the first time.

I don't often review products, but in this case I had to. Basically I bought this for my dad who is in his 80's with macular degeneration and memory issues. He has an old flat screen TV and a Comcast DTA (nothing special). Comcast's new remotes have a lot of buttons, and he kept hitting the wrong ones. This usually meant mixing audio and video. This remote control is basically bulletproof with a few buttons. It's easier for him to remember which button does what. When using this remote, pressing the wrong button or set of buttons will not cause the TV or cable box to freeze. At the same time, it was not easy to set up the remote control. I first tried the Comcast distance learning method. I wasn't sure if the new remote would scan properly. After several attempts I found that the new remote control was not receiving any signal from the old remote control. I held two IR IR remotes, pressed the appropriate buttons, and sometimes one button worked and the others didn't. I reset a new remote every time it didn't work. So I decided to try the scanning method. I pressed the buttons to set the seek and then pressed the CH+ button until the channel changed. Once that was done I disabled it and tested the other buttons to see if they worked. I tried this method several times, the channels worked but the volume didn't. To try and fix this I switched back to learning mode. I used the Comcast remote to practice the Vol+ and Vol- buttons and the Mute and Power buttons. If it didn't work the first time, I would restart the remote and start over. I probably spent about 45 minutes on the whole thing from start to finish, but I managed to get it working. I would probably save time if I followed the instructions and used the Scan method first and then the Learn method. I mean, I might have been disappointed for 45 minutes, but I got it right in the end. My dad was grateful I gave him something he could finally use and not screw up. Now he can use the TV alone and I know he won't get upset.
