If I couldn't compare this carpet vacuum I would give it a higher rating. I ordered this to replace a 10 year old Hoover I've been using that still cleans but shows signs of wear. I was disappointed with this dual rotation pet model from the moment I took it out of the box; It seems like Hoover cut corners on many fronts, starting with the informative owner's manual. Formerly these things were written thoroughly and in complete, understandable sentences; they were mini books full of useful information that you always had at hand. We are currently encouraged to visit the Hoover website for video tutorials and answers to frequently asked questions. The flimsy booklet that comes with this model tells us to do just that. Too bad there are currently no videos or questions about this particular model. Unfortunately, there is no mention of a spot and stain removal tool in the guide either. My husband and I wasted valuable time trying to figure out where the snorkel tool even fits in this machine - there is no diagram of the machine in the manual showing its important functions or how they connect together. We've finally discovered a hidden spot on the car where we can plug in the handset, but we still don't know how to use the tool properly. I'll look into this another time if I really need it, but I'm shocked that Hoover left out any details in her guide. More importantly, this vacuum just can't compete with my old Hoover model, which I now understand was the powerhouse of the machine. The suction power doesn't seem as strong and I feel like excess cleaner isn't completely removed like it was on my old model. This machine had a simple rinsing option - after spraying the cleaning solution onto the carpets and using dry strokes to remove the residue, I could go over the same area of carpet again by simply rinsing it off with water. This was an extra but quick step and it really removed a lot of the excess soapy mixture that attracts dirt faster after the carpet has dried. I can still flush with water with this machine, but it requires a tank full of clean water (rather than a mixed solution) and cleaning the entire room again. Either way, this simple water rinsing step produces excellent results - carpets that look clean from the start stay cleaner longer. Hoover makes many models and styles of carpet cleaners - this one wasn't for me and I now regret ordering it. For the same price, I recommend Hoover's Dual V Widepath. It premixes detergent and water solutions, rinses carpets with water, and has three settings: Spill Catch, Gentle Clean, and Power Clean. I would order it instead.
