Review on πŸ“œ 0.118-Inch Translucent Cast Acrylic Sheet by Chad Judex

Beware of translucent.

I ordered two 1/8 inch pieces, a clear amber and a translucent red, to make parking light lenses for a vintage car I am restoring. Clear Amber is really very clear and I have to run it through a tumbler to dull it a bit. On the other hand, a "translucent" red simply cannot be called translucent, it is opaque. It transmits a little closer than 5% to 50% of red light and is less transparent than natural acetal or polyethylene (less transparent than a 5-gallon orange plastic Home Depot bucket). Objects viewed through the material. This material does not fall under this definition. When I finished shaping my new lenses, removed the paper and held one up to my table lamp (high intensity) I couldn't see any light - just a silhouette. I later experimented with a mini-mag bulb and found this one "Translucent" red acrylic lets through almost as much red light as the last knuckle of my thumb pressed firmly against the lens of the flashlight. Therefore, this material has about the same transparency as my thumb. If you are looking for a translucent material, buy a transparent material and sand its surface. If you are looking for an opaque material, buy "translucent".
