My son is 6 so we bought size XS. They are still a bit large in the groin area. They are expected to be larger in the crotch area, but I feel like they are a lot larger than Nike compression shorts. You are very thin. My son once wore them to a soccer game and they broke. He likes wearing them and doesn't complain, but I prefer more durable pants so I don't have to buy them every month.
