I have to agree with the reviewer who noted that the shoe's upper (tongue) is now cheaper and no longer leather. I loved how the previous classic Reeboks NPC was made out of soft leather with thick padding all around, which made it stand out and fit like a glove. The tongue is now made of a stiff, hard, thin plastic, and its edge cuts into the top front of my ankle, leaving a deep ridge in my skin even when I'm wearing fairly thick athletic socks. It will never break since it's not leather, but the hard plastic(?) edge will stay that way indefinitely. I've worn this brand and style of Reebok for more years than I'd like to admit, but now I feel like I should move on. The company followed the example of many others in the quest for maximum profits and cheap import construction with a "less is more” philosophy. I would happily pay more to get a pair of original TRUE Newport Classic tennis shoes. How much are you really saving by substituting materials if it means a damaged product?
