Review on Rearview Mirror Cover Replacement Carbon by Josh Elkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Terrible setup, high quality, great look!

As others have said this is a terrible setup as there is a risk of breaking the mirror. The package arrived very quickly and checking the goods showed that it is an excellent quality product. It costs a little more than the other options, but others are likely to use cheaper plastic, making the cleats more brittle. They bend like normal ones and work great. The finish is also outstanding. Can't tell how long it will hold up in the weather without yellowing so I think the tone will show. There are no corners and edges and everything smells like a well thought-out construction. First, make sure you check out this setup on YouTube so you know what to expect. The tool they provide is not bad but not broad enough. for my taste - despite the quality of the tool, I suspect its small width increases the risk of breaking the mirror. So after I got the mirror upright I used my own much wider trim removal tool to (gently!) take it off and it worked like a charm. But the sound it makes sounds like $300 or more going down the drain, so be careful. It literally leaves you breathless! After the mirror was removed, I had no problem loosening the tabs on the standard cover, starting with the outer one (I used the included tool to hold the old cover so I could detach it). next tab, etc.). Again, tenderness is key. I would like. Sneak up on him, don't attack him, and you'll be fine. This new cap is easy to put on and fits perfectly. Putting the mirror on was very scary because I thought I put it back on but the adjustment motor didn't work. It doesn't seem to move. After a few nervous moments I realized I hadn't clicked it all the way in so I pushed the mirror clips a little harder and it went in further and now everything works. phew! After attaching both sides, I took a microfiber cloth and wiped away the fingerprints on the new lids and mirrors, and voila! My wife noticed that it looks more aggressive and I would say the quality is very good. The tabs flex like stocks, so everything worked fine. Even though it's faux carbon fiber it looks really nice and my m235i convertible looks a lot manlier which is what I wanted. Again, can't comment on how it holds up in the sun and doesn't yellow (my cheap carbon fiber rear spoiler obviously didn't have a quality clear coat because it yellowed in 24 months - will look for a new one so far the product is excellent quality - be careful and patient when removing and installing and you will be happy!
