Good card has held up so far but died after 27 months

I am an amateur photographer and bought a SanDisk 16GB 60MB/s SDCFX-106-A61 card to use in my Canon 7D to use. I've never had performance issues with the card. The 7D can capture a short burst of RAW images at 8fps, and the card never slowed it down. There were also no problems with HD videos at 60 fps. The size of 16 GB is both a plus and a minus. You can store an incredible amount of images, but the downside is that you also have a lot to lose if the card fails. My first clue that the map was in trouble came when I snapped a few hundred pictures of wildlife in the wetlands. Region. When I tried to upload the images, the uploader screen only showed about 12 thumbnails. All other thumbnails were blank, with an indicator showing the download was still in progress. No matter how long I waited and no matter what tricks I tried, I couldn't load a single image from the card. Finally, in the camera, I deleted all images except those showing thumbnails. This allowed me to upload about a dozen with thumbnails. Then I reformatted the card and tried to use it again. This time it worked and I was able to download all the images. Great, I thought, problem solved. This was the last time the card worked for me. After that, the first scenario repeated itself several times and I threw the card away. I've owned the card for 27 months and in that time I've probably created and downloaded 15,000 images. I don't know if this is normal life for any of these cards, but I expected it to last longer. I'm also rethinking the size of my CF cards. A professional photographer friend (shoots with a Canon 5D II) told me that he never uses CF cards larger than 4GB because he doesn't want to risk losing everything if the card fails. During the event he shoots with 2 cameras and has an assistant who constantly changes CF cards. I'm far from that level of usage, but the same idea applies to me. If I spend a day photographing, I'd rather change the map a few times than risk losing everything I've done. I am replacing this card with a slightly smaller capacity one.
