Review on πŸ“· Red Olympus TG-820 12MP Camera – Shockproof, Waterproof, Freeze-proof (Old Model) by Eddie Simpkins

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Better than Nikon AW100.

I've waited a few months to post a review on this camera because I wanted to make sure I'd experienced it myself. In short, the Olympus TG-820 is a fantastic outdoor camera that doesn't require maintenance like many other acclaimed "durable cameras". I spent a lot of time comparing reviews and specs of many cameras in this "rugged camera". " segment. It all came down to Nikon AW100 and Olympus TG-820 for my price range and feature needs. I chose Olympus over Nikon for many reasons. The TG-820 is almost $100 cheaper than Nikon and has more useful features for me Shooting habits Reasons why I chose the TG-820 over the AW100: 1. The TG-820 has more than twice the screen resolution of the AW100 (1030k dots vs. 460k dots) 2. TG- The 820 can handle up to Capturing 5 frames per second compared to the Nikon 3, allowing for better shooting on the go.3 The TG-820 has better low light performance with a maximum ISO of 6400 compared to Nikon's 3200. What the TG-820 does 820 Good: Waterproof: The TG-820 performed very well in the water and on land I took this camera snorkeling in Fiji and had no issues with their water resistance claims up to 33 ft. All on connectors on the camera have these rubber grommets firmly fixed and protects the camera from water, and the battery and SD card compartment has a double locking system so you cannot accidentally open the compartment. The 5x optical lens is fully housed within the camera, so there are no protrusions to bend or break, keeping the camera tightly sealed. To test this I gave this camera to a local spearfisherman on a trip to get some cool underwater shots. After that, I learned that the camera was submerged to a depth of nearly 50 feet with no mechanical problems. Menus: The camera's menu isn't overly complicated, but switching between shooting modes and ISO is only possible by navigating the onscreen menus. There are no dedicated buttons or touchscreens on the camera to quickly change settings. This can be a loud killer for some people who want to quickly change settings, but once you get the hang of the settings menu, it's very easy. * I just found a "Touch Control" setting on this camera that allows you to navigate through the menus with your finger on the side of the camera. To access this feature, press the assigned menu button and scroll down until you are in settings menu 3. Here you will find the touch control function. Enable touch controls and you'll get a configuration menu that lets you change the sensitivity and location of each touch. I'd still prefer physical buttons and I'm not sure how useful this feature is because it's slower than using a toggle, but at least it gives the user more options. Image: This camera takes pretty good photos. The image is clear and has good color saturation in any light. Some reviewers noted that the camera sharpened the image too much. I agree that the in-camera sharpness is a bit harsh, but by no means enough to deter anyone from buying this camera. Other positive qualities far outweigh this small remark. Effects: I know effects are useless on many modern cameras, but the TG-820 gives them a new style. If you enable "Magic Mode" when selecting a capture mode, you can choose from a variety of filters that appear on your camera in real-time. This way you can see how your photo will look with the filter applied before you take the shot and save yourself the pointless minutes of applying filters after it most likely won't look very good. Effects Listed: Pop Art, Pinhole, Fisheye, Sketch, Blur, Punk (looks like an old iPod advert with dancing apple), Glitter, Watercolor, Reflection. delicate, fragmented and dramatic (creates an HDR effect). ISO In a previous review I mentioned that this camera handles high ISOs well. I can no longer say it's true. With continued use, I found that ISOs above 800 produced a significant amount of noise, with images tending to be particularly noisy when shot indoors. High ISO can still be better when shooting underwater, but be aware that it will be noisy if you want to print a large image. the best possible photos. Cons: - The camera's surface and screen are prone to scratches. - No physical buttons to switch modes. - Overly sharp images. , a great camera for outdoor travel thanks to its sturdy construction and excellent imaging capabilities. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs camera features at a fraction of the price.
