This unit records MP3 files at 128kbps, which is about half the maximum sound quality you'll get from MP3s. So I'm not too happy with it, but for the price it does a decent job. It's a bit fiddly to use, but a quick look at the manual won't fix anything. The sound quality is not the best as you will hear digital pops and beeps at the beginning of the recording. It has a practical function: if it reaches the edge of the cassette, it will automatically rewind to the beginning of the 2nd side and continue recording without pausing. Naturally, this leads to a long pause in the recording. Nothing that good PC audio editing software can fix. EDIT 2018-06-11: Just a few additions. I have found that this device is not designed for precision machining. When you start recording, the indicator on the USB flash drive will flash, but the recording hasn't actually started yet. In fact, the recording does not start for a few seconds after you press the button to start recording, and the indicator on the USB flash drive starts blinking. So keep that in mind. This unit is best suited for recording the tape side from the rewind point to the end. After a while my device stopped playing, when page 2 is over. It plays side 1 first, reaches the end, and then starts side 2. It plays side 2, and when it reaches the end, it stops playing. Now I seem to have always set the switch to loop the tape to play both sides indefinitely, even when the switch isn't set to loop. EDIT 2018-06-26: The fast forward function no longer works. While these devices seem decent enough, they don't have decent build quality as I've rarely used this feature. This is in addition to auto-repeating forever if I didn't have that feature enabled and it was working natively. Given these factors, I have to say that these devices can be cheap. EDIT 2018-06-27: I also noticed that your feeds have to be in absolutely pristine condition for this thing to work. If there are creases in the tapes, the device thinks it has reached the end of the tape and starts over from the middle on the other side. If for some reason your tape is running at an uneven speed, the device will assume it has reached the end of the tape and start over on the other side in the middle. EDIT 2018-30-2018: And now the recording doesn't stop when pressing the record button that stopped the recording. I need to remove the USB flash drive from the device to stop recording. Luckily, this works without incident, but this further illustrates the seemingly cheap quality of these devices.
