The first item I ordered had a bottom defect. Between the two, it's clear that the thicker bezel at the bottom had to be fused during production, resulting in some cracks in the first one I received and slight aesthetic blemishes when it was replaced. So why still 5 stars? Because if you want a decorative, beautiful cocktail shaker, you can buy a lot of sculptural styles, from rockets and ships to ones modeled on people in hats. This device is a tool. Damn good. The thick glass has an insulating effect and prevents the hand from freezing when shaking. It also allows you to see your drinks as you pour ingredients, eliminating the need to measure drinks you "know by heart" but aren't pouring. The lid is the only non-insulating part of this shaker. The good thing: through the lid you can still tell how cold the drink is inside. I've never leaked this thing and I even use it to blend some hot drinks which creates a pressure that bursts when I remove the lid. The strainer bolts on securely and has a gasket (removable somehow?) that can be cleaned if you're mixing something really sticky like espresso or Baileys-based drinks. Overall, it might not be the prettiest shaker, but it does the job. repeatedly and my hands don't get cold. Simply inspect your first for cracks on the underside and don't be afraid to request a replacement if needed.
