Review on Enhanced Home Automation with the Reliable Support HomeKit Assistant SmartThings by Jose Muenzen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works as advertised

I have different types of smart plugs from different vendors. The first thing that struck me when I took the Meross Smart Plug Mini out of the box was its weight - it seems to be more durable and of better quality than most of the competition's plugs. However, the size is spot on - I have a few other smart plugs that block a second outlet or protrude significantly from the outlet when in use. The Meross Smart Plug Mini does not work with either of them, which means that another socket can be used. Pairing with SmartThings wasn't as easy as with the Z-Wave Plus (or even Zigbee) plugs I have, but I believe that's the case with most versions of Wi-Fi. When for some reason I opened the Meross app to pair and add sockets on my iPhone, it defaulted to the Apple Home app to continue with the standard socket setup. I personally don't use Homekit as very few devices are Homekit certified so this was a bit of an annoyance. I couldn't find a way to complete the setup in Meross without first doing it in the Home app. However, once the device was set up in the Home app, it appeared in the Meross app. I previously linked my Meross account to SmartThings. After opening SmartThings, each of the three Meross Smart Plug Minis appeared in SmartThings and can now be used in procedures/automations, added to the correct room, etc. Since I have SmartThings linked to Alexa, I prefer not to link Meross directly to Alexa (otherwise there will be duplicate devices), but I have no doubt these will work just fine too. I would recommend and certainly not hesitate to purchase more Smart Plug Minis from Meross in the future should I need more.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
