WRONG DIRECTION. Step 1 is about the metal braces that attach the legs to the tabletop - the short side rests against the table, not the long side. If only I had known this sooner I probably would have saved an hour of my time. It's also easier to attach the metal X-cross to the legs before attaching it to the countertop, which is also against the guidelines. It is almost certain that anyone who has ever written a guide has never seen this table, let alone compiled it. Directions like really gaslight you and drive you crazy! But when the table is together, it's very cute! The table top doesn't scratch that easily on me and rubs off fairly well. It's small, just right for two in our little corner.
