Review on LG 86UN8570PUC Alexa Built Ultra by Michael Powell

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Honest review from an ordinary man.

This review is for the following model: LG 86UN8570PUCOK, so I'm not a videophile and have no technical knowledge. I'm an ordinary guy who enjoys watching movies and playing games on the big screen. I bought this 86 inch LG TV because I wanted to watch 4K content on a big screen. Based on Sharp's 70-inch 1080p 3D TV, this LG is a lot bigger and a lot sharper. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Sharp and can't get rid of it, just moved it to another room as I prepare for the upcoming next-gen console releases over the next few months. My 1080p was great for my PS4 Pro, but I knew I would need a 4K TV for the new PS5. I have to admit that I had a really hard time deciding on a TV because I was torn between a smaller OLED screen or a larger LED. I set my budget at $2,000 and began researching and reading reviews on many different models. OLED TVs tend to have a much better picture but are more expensive. In the end I decided I would sacrifice some image quality for a larger size. This 86-inch monster doesn't disappoint in size. Package: Reading other reviews I was fully prepared to receive a damaged TV and was willing to experience the inconvenience of returning a broken TV and waiting for another to arrive. But to my surprise, I succeeded on the first try. The box had some damage but there is a lot of foam between the TV and the box so mine wasn't damaged. You're definitely going to need at least one other person to help you get that thing out of the box and put it on a new table or wall. I decided to install the included feet and mount my set on an 8 foot table that I made specifically for this TV. Please note that I have found it helpful if you plan to install feet, remove the outer cardboard and then remove the foam surrounding the TV. Now spread the foam on the floor directly in front of the TV screen and have someone help you carefully place the TV on the floor (screen down). At this point it's very easy to remove the floor foam and install the legs. It's impossible for one person to assemble the legs and put this TV on the table unaided. I actually got mine around noon and had to sit and stare at the huge box for about 5 hours until my wife got home from work because nobody was home to help me. Image quality: Again, I'm not a trained professional. or anything but i can appreciate good things. This TV has a great picture for my needs. I have to say that I noticed that the image blurs in fast-moving scenes. I turned off the "Trummotion" (enabled by default) and I didn't notice much of a difference. I haven't really played around with the other picture settings because I think it looks pretty good, except for the motion blur (which is really just a minor annoyance and not a deal breaker). If anyone has any recommendations for an even better picture let me know and I'm happy to try it, but like I said I'm not disappointed with the factory settings. Sound: Good, so I'm not ticking any stars here, but I think it's worth mentioning that the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. I understand that it must be very difficult to reproduce rich sound from tiny speakers in an ultra-slim TV, but my old 70" Sharp sounds a lot better than this 86" LG. Normal dialogue sounds good but the music doesn't sound very good. Every time a bass note or low-frequency sound is heard, it almost sounds like the speaker is hitting the floor. I haven't bothered to adjust the EQ settings as I plan to Getting a surround sound system in the near future so I don't have to worry about the internal speakers anymore. I doubt EQ would make much of a difference anyway since the speakers are so tiny. Also, the sound quality isn't really why you're even considering this TV, is it? And I'm willing to bet that most of us who can afford to spend $2,000 on an 86-inch TV can also afford to buy some external speakers, even if it's just a soundbar is. Magic Remote: I love this remote control. has a good weight and feels good in the hand. Its shape makes it easy to feel the right way to hold it. So if you reach for it in a dark room, you won't hold it upside down and accidentally press the wrong button. I want the buttons to be highlighted, but I'm sure I'll quickly remember the button location. The pointer feature is good and I think it saves time when logging into an account like Netflix or Disney+ or just navigating the OSD. The only dedicated app buttons are for Netflix and Prime Video, but a simple press of the home button quickly brings up the rest of your apps. Review: It might not be the best TV on the market today, but if you're looking for a larger-than-usual 4K Ultra High Definition Smart TV with a pretty good image for less than $2,000 , then this is for you. A few minor annoyances the ones I mentioned above are easily forgotten when immersed in a movie or game on that huge screen. I would definitely recommend this TV to anyone who has taken the time to read this review.
