Review on FloraCraft Special Flores Original Version by Michelle Langley

NOT ONLY FOR florists!

I'm a craftsman and I'm always looking for unusual uses for everyday objects. Everyone knows what dry floral foam is. It's a styrofoam-like green lump at the bottom of a vase or decorative basket in which these beautiful flowers are perfectly arranged. When I recently bought dry floral foam, I wanted to know what else it could be used for. I bought AND HAVE 2 fairly large units that were only $4.55 (with free shipping from Revain Prime) which I thought was a pretty good deal. This product is very strong but easily cut with a serrated knife (I used a kitchen steak knife - don't tell your wife!). I cut out a square block slightly larger than the bottom of the vase and, using some force, press the dry block against the bottom of the vase. He came close and didn't disappoint. This is a very easy way to create dried flower arrangements, including artificial flowers. It is not intended for use in freshly cut compositions where the foam requires soaking. However, this product does NOT absorb water and is not intended for use where wet foam is required. I also tested the foam's response to different binding methods. I cut the second block in two and spray them with spray glue. It worked at first, but after a bit of movement the two pieces fell apart as expected. The foam is porous and the spray had nothing to stick to. The second way is with 3M assembly putty. It was difficult to get the putty to stick to the foam, but when I put the two pieces together they held, but not for long. I wouldn't recommend either of these methods if you're trying to use dry floral foam for a project that requires parts to be glued together. The best method, however, was a hot glue gun. I was able to apply hot glue to a decorative scrapbook object and attach it to the foam securely and permanently. After the hot glue dried it was almost impossible for me to remove the object without destroying the foam and leaving a large dent. . However, be aware that these types of food sometimes contain toxic materials and can become dirty when cut, trimmed, or broken into small pieces. Dust and fine particles were all over my desk and on my hands. I rubbed my eyes without washing my hands first and felt a slight irritation. It was my fault for not paying attention. I recommend this product for the DIY enthusiast for its value and versatility.
