Normal DIY product.

So I really like the overall design of this item. The drain feels nice and has protection for the float valve. However, EVERYTHING is plastic, so problems are possible. The first one I bought had a leak in the float valve assembly. I tried my best not to over-tighten the parts and don't think I caused a leak (I think it was a manufacturing defect), but I imagine someone could easily cause problems when reassembling. Also, I hooked up a standard garden hose first, which is heavy and can put a lot of torque on the plastic fittings depending on where your faucet is located. Another way to potentially cause a leak. I sent the first one back and got a replacement. Even more careful during assembly. This time I went to Home Depot and got a flexible hose from the irrigation department and some couplers. The torque on the plastic fittings is much less, but they still didn't fit and leaked at the hose to float valve junction, even with teflon tape. After smearing the tracks with putty, I was able to stop the slow leak. So now it finally works well and my dog uses it all the time. I'm not worried about filling her bowl with water every other day. This is not a product for those who don't have basic do-it-yourself know-how and are willing to experiment with solutions. I have read many leak reviews and after two of them I agree this could have been done better. But with a little patience you can do it. It took another 10 minutes once I had the parts I needed.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • There are problems
