Compared to the black SKID GUARD mineral abrasive non-slip tape I bought from Lowe's my first impressions of TRU tape seem very suitable on painted wooden steps outdoors. When the tread edge is worn/worn I applied SKID GUARD so the tread was bowed about 1/2 inch. Within 3-4 days and even at warm temperatures of around 84Β°, SKID GUARD broke off the edge paneling. I pulled out the SKID GUARD which was easier than expected as the glue was softened by the heat from the sun. I believe that by replacing all SKID GUARD tape with TRU tape, I found that the tape had a lighter and more flexible backing, allowing for easier application and shaping of the curved tread edge. It's only been 2 days since the tape was applied but there's no visible loss of adhesion yet so I'm optimistic. I suspect the SKID GUARD was just too stiff and may be designed for application on flat surfaces like just the top of a tread rather than the edge. Both tapes appear to be of good quality with good non-slip surfaces, but TRU might be a better choice if you need to stick it to curved edges.
