Doesn't work with Mouse or Mac Mini

I just received. I need this so my wife can use a wired mouse from her bed. Unplugged my wired mouse, which works, plugged in the cable, then plugged the mouse in. The mouse LED lights up for a second and then turns off. The mouse pointer never moves. i will send it back Edit: I have a powered USB adapter that I got over 10 years ago. That's how it works. So I removed it from my computer and put it on my wife's computer.
