Review on πŸš€ 1TB Samsung 980 PRO PCIe NVMe Gen4 Internal M.2 Gaming SSD (MZ-V8P1T0B) by Jnis Labucis ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I did not regret the purchase, everything is fine.

Samsung SSD 980 PRO is a fiasco of a Korean manufacturer, and unfortunately I bought it. Brief background. I have an old 256GB ssd on sata - which is already 7 years old, while it has both Windows and games, and there was not enough space, although health during this time fell from only 100% to 92%. I decided to buy a new fast ssd on m2 pci4 - the mother and the processor supports it. At first I looked after the Corsair Force Series MP600, he is simply handsome, and there is a built-in radiator (there is no on the mother). Almost ordered. I looked before buying, on my old ssd the type of memory is MLS and on this top TLS it is less reliable, there are about 10 times less rewriting cycles. It's a mess, it means that technologies have "developed" so much that on top-end ssds they began to shove memory worse than on ones 6 years ago. I started looking for modern ssds on m2 with normal memory, I found this one, in the description here, and on other stores it says - V-NAND 3-bit MLC, yeah, I think MLC, it’s really much more expensive, and there’s also no radiator, it’s bad, but what you won't do for X10 times durability. I looked at the reviews, read the articles and bought + a radiator, that is, another 790r. Then I came across a very large article of 7 pages, with detailed tests and hardware analysis. And then I realized that 3-bit MLC is a marketing name that has been used in samsung since this line to disguise TLC. The pro stick in this line up until the last generation meant more reliable memory than justified its cost, they are probably the most expensive on the market, and then they decided that they could cut down even more money by stuffing cheap memory into it, and what would people buy it, invented a new type of marking - 3-bit MLC, although in MLC there is only 2-bit per cell, and 3-bit is already TLC. As a result, I bought the wrong product for which I gave 18700 + 790r radiator. Despite this, I am still satisfied, since it is the fastest on the market and very reliable (despite the lower declared limit compared to Corsair - but this is only on paper, in reality Samsung is more reliable), but the sediment remains.

Pros
  • Very high speed. Supports pci4.
Cons
  • Change memory type from MLC to TLC There is no radiator, without which it will quickly become unusable, since during tests the controller can heat up > 80 degrees. what can cause chip failure.
