It has a large dial with large digits that are easy to read. There was a sticker on the box stating to use a zinc-carbon battery instead of an alkaline battery. I just ignored it. The battery polarity is indicated in the battery compartment. The alarm on/off button isn't labeled, but it's easy to figure out.
