Review on Variety of Colors Available for Tobar Planet Robot by Jerry Anderson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

A high quality Schlock toy based on a sci-fi classic. Disappointing

This was my second Robbie Robbie Robot Mechanical Planet and I bought it based on my high expectations for my first model. For those of you unfamiliar with this legendary 1950's superstar, Robbie first appeared in MGM's classic 1950's American science fiction film Forbidden Planet (MGM 1956), in which he starred alongside Leslie Nielson, Ann Francis and Walter starred. Dove. In fact, Robbie stole the show with his great one-liners and booming voice. Robbie Robbie set the standard for all other sci-fi robots, including Lost in Space and Star Wars' R2D2 and C3PO. Forbidden Planet itself set the standard for sane, believable science fiction-based science fiction, and was the clear precursor to Star Trek that would follow and be influential nearly a decade later. For us kids in the 70's, before Star Wars, before VCRs etc, the opportunity to watch Forbidden Planet appeared on our local TV stations from time to time if you happened to find it in the TV guide and sometimes showed it black -White mode and not even technicolor, it was something of the holy grail of sci-fi or the quest for original sci-fi typeface. This movie, along with Metropolis, This Island Earth, and a few others are A-list sci-fi canons. I've been looking for an affordable Robbie robot for about twenty years because some of them can be very expensive, and I have to say my first one in black was awesome see "Vintage Style 8.5" Black Planet Robot" Nice little product, all parts and connections fit together well, smooth even paint finish in a metal product (1950's style years) and Expensive molded plastic Again a good product in the $25-$30 price range for all the retro sci-fi fans who love that kind of cute kitsch from our childhood for us now our average age It is not only robot toys, it's a nice memories of childhood and youth. On my black model there was smooth metal with no marks. This last part looks very rough.I bought it based on the strengths of the first one but was very unpopular fascinated to see what poor quality work has been done in what appears to be cost-cutting measures in this version. It's a shame to see a good idea that's well executed and affordable for the consumer decay due to stingy cost-cutting and poor investment costs. In other words, they made the product cheaper to maximize profit and that is bad for the quality of the product. If they did this with the Red Robot version, I'm not sure if they use the same methods with the original black versions. Basically, this red version should look like my black version, just in a different color, not this one. so different that it may seem like a bad "fake" of the original. Unfortunately, it looks like it's the same company.

Pros
  • Very impressive
Cons
  • Hard to say
