The chuck - the component that tightens or loosens when rotated clockwise or counterclockwise - initially caught the drill even when some pressure was applied to the drill. Halfway through a QUARTER INCH (0.25 inch) piece of sea driftwood (for jewelry) the chisel tip became blunt and stopped moving - a little more pressure was applied to finish the hole. No luck - the drill won't drill any further and the chuck just loosens up, allowing the drill to spin, rendering this tool useless for a job it should handle easily. This happened with every size drill I tried to use. I KNOW - it didn't work. it's expensive, but shouldn't a product work no matter what the cost?!
