My 7 year old is a little baby. He usually wears a size 5 because it usually fits him perfectly. However, these slims in size 5 were too small. He could barely put her on his hips. We tried size 6 and still didn't fit the waist. I undid the "adjustable" waist but it still didn't fit. Length 6 was too long. We ended up returning both and buying another brand which was still a size 5 but fit him perfectly.
