This 9-18mm lens is unmatched for price, performance and quality construction. Of course, the mid-range Olympus fisheye and the ultra-wide-angle zoom at the top are both technically and visually excellent. But how often do you use a fisheye lens or an ultra-wide lens to justify a price tag of $1,000 or more for both? Also, this lens uses filters while high-end lenses don't. You lose some versatility that way - and of course on pricier lenses (compared to even the expensive filter on this lens) if you scratch the front element you risk going insane. At f/4.0-5.6, it's almost as bright as the most expensive wide-angle zoom. Weather protection is a big loss, but a reasonable compromise.
