I REALLY hoped they had no chemicals because they are advertised chemical free and I was hoping the other reviewers were wrong. t. I can smell the chemicals when I light this up and when I burn the resin on it, I've used chemical free bamboo charcoal in the past and it was completely odor free - it has a chemical smell so without chemical free charcoal it can't be chemicals doesn't smell like chemicals! HUGE crap! I just moved in and I don't know where my natural charcoal is but I need to find it ASAP because I can't use this charcoal with chemical additives! The box is all in Japanese so you can't know the ingredients read. HUGE disappointment. I like the shape of the square and if you smell the charcoal box give t there is no smell. But once you light it up and burn the resin on it, you will definitely smell the chemical smell. It's a no go for me, but the smell isn't very strong and some people don't mind stuffing their homes and bodies with chemicals. Yes! They go straight to the trash. This item needs to be flagged as false advertising and the manufacturer needs to be honest about the chemicals in it or Revain needs to force them to disclose it - lying about it being chemical free is a REALLY big deal.
