Review on Enhance Your Jobsite Visibility with DEWALT Headlamp: 200 Lumen Power (DWHT81424) by Nelson Calafell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very bright - not very cozy.

Pros:* Very, very bright. I don't have a light meter, but the light output is very bright and far superior to the cheap spotlights it replaces. It's on par with a quality handheld torch and I've got over 100 lumens of light output no doubt. Instead of moving your head to direct the light, work. * Uses standard (AAA) batteries, not fancy LR cells which cost a few dollars each. You can even use rechargeable batteries.* The strap is non-slip so it won't slip or fall off.* It's yellow, which is handy when you need it. It's probably not that useful if your toolbox is filled with dozens of yellow DeWalt tools. But I digress. The Bad: *As other reviewers have warned me, this really isn't meant to hit you squarely in the head. It is more suitable for use on a helmet. Yes I've used it on my head and it's fine for shorter periods of time. but soon it will become uncomfortable and after 20 minutes of use you will feel like you have a headache. Part of the problem is the lack of padding, but the headlight itself is also very flat, unlike a human head. This means that a flat lamp applies pressure to a specific point on the forehead, rather than spreading the pressure over a larger area as if it has a slight curve. I considered adding a piece of padding to the back which would help, but I usually only use the light for short periods of time so I'm having success with that for now. In cold weather, wearing a stocking cap might solve the problem, but it's not ideal if you're climbing the attic on a 90-degree day. can be upside down for hours. I would not recommend that. Not only will you have an inflamed forehead, you'll likely have a red square on your forehead for several hours after removing it. If you use it on a helmet and/or are willing to live with a little discomfort then this is a great light. If I were on the DeWalt product development team I would suggest a separate curved pad that goes to the back of the headlamp for those wanting to use it directly on the head - that would satisfy my only real complaint. Plus, it's typical DeWalt quality and functionality, meaning it's a well-made product that will last for years and will most likely never give me a problem.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Diffused light
