not "permanent ": plugs, sockets and sockets

When the battery is fully charged, it works quite well. Blackout. I recently had a power outage and tried to use it to light a gas stove flame. It sparked, but the spark was not enough to ignite the flame. I suspect the battery has died over time although I haven't used it in years. I ended up using a cheap long lighter (usually for lighting outdoor gas grills) that I kept in my kitchen cupboard drawer. 3-4 years and it worked fine. Of course I could look for a C size battery but it was much easier to use my cheap long lighter. And I don't usually carry C-size batteries with me because I don't use C-size batteries for anything else. For products like this, I want to be able to pretty much forget about them or neglect them until I need them later. on. In terms of forgetting/neglecting constraint, my cheap long lighter passed the test but this spark lighter did not. So, in that sense, it's not "permanent". I don't know if it would have made a difference, but adding a physical switch to keep the battery from draining over time could have caused the spark lighter to fail. be usable in the kitchen cupboard even after a few years.
