Maybe it's because my expectations were too high as I've never used a flap sander but it didn't actually sand. I tried it to remove the last bits of bark from a dead branch and after 10 minutes of use on the same small area I managed to remove almost no material. It buffed the area a bit and made it a bit smoother, but that's about it. After this failed attempt I had to grind by hand again.
