Wow, that mattress pad stinks. We're used to memory foam mattresses and we know we need to let them air out for at least 48 hours before sleeping on them - they have a very strong chemical odor when unpacked. This topper is the WORST we have ever experienced and we have lived with at least 7 memory foam mattresses. We tried to sleep on it after 48 hours and failed. I had to go to the guest room. The next 2 nights were the same... now we have 5 nights on the air. We opened the lid etc to vent and it still stinks enough to keep us awake. It's a weird chemical and musty smell - TERRIBLE. We slept on it last night (that was 6 days of airing!) and it still smelled enough to disturb our sleep. Today I got him out of bed - we hate him. This is a very soft topper. We don't like that at all. You are lost in yourself and you find it difficult to move - very strange. It's 4 inches thick, so remember - that's a lot of height for your mattress.
