I set them to 2x4" which I only set for these hooks. The pre-drilled mounting holes are too wide to accept 2x4 hooks. The mounting bolts will be right on the edge and will likely separate the 2x4. I drilled another hole so the hook and holes are better centered on the 2x4. Likewise &*#*&#@! Bolt broken during installation! I use an impact driver and didn't pre-drill the starting hole, but the screws shouldn't break anyway! I throw away the screws that came with it and look for replacements in my tool box. I hope the hooks are stronger than the mounting screws.
