Terrible magnification and too big

I thought they would be great binoculars for a 3 year old but I regret buying them and here's why; - there is mostly no magnification. Objects viewed through binoculars aren't actually noticeably larger or sharper than they would be without them, so what's the point? They were fun for a while as a novelty, but quickly grew boring as they don't really work - they're too big and heavy for a small child to comfortably carry. I tried them on and didn't like the feel myself, so I don't blame my kids for not wanting to wear them. Especially since the neck strap is just a thin nylon cord, with no padding or anything like that. It's not pleasant at all. Due to the fact that they are massive, they are inconvenient to store and transport. I can't just toss them in our diaper bag because they take up so much space. Now I'm looking for some mini travel binoculars that would be a lot easier to carry around when we wanted to use them - there are two tear points on the cord which is great safety wise but also annoying because the middle piece of cord keeps falling off again. We already lost one to the vacuum cleaner. Honestly, my kids had the most fun with these things waving this piece of string, but that bugs me too. too cumbersome to carry around, and even if you had them, don't they actually do anything? So if you're looking for binoculars for a kid, get him a little pair that work!

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • I don't have much animosity about it, everything is fine
