Spring. It's Gone!: APP Remote Controlled Vehicles & Parts

My brother got a great drone for Christmas. I won't list the model here, but it did match the specs listed on the Potensic D88. After a little research on Christmas morning I bought a Potensic D88. It came quickly, I had it in my hands by Friday. (2 days later). The drone came in a sturdy carrying case, which my brother's drone didn't have. Everything is neatly and safely stowed away in the case. I took out the battery and set the charger to charge the battery while I read the manual. The instructions seemed easy, although I had a bit of a hard time getting the drone ready for its first flight. After watching the quick start video in the app, I was good to go! I checked the GPS settings one last time and made sure high speed mode was off for my first flight! In the air, the drone felt pretty good. I live in Central Florida and the winds are usually fairly mild. After 2 or 3 minutes of small circles I decided to move forward a bit; I was enjoying the video feed on my phone and wanted to see what the rest of the area was like. I lifted the drone about 50 feet and sent it about 75 meters to get a feel for the terrain. At 75 yards the controller started beeping (checking the manual looks like the signal was lost) and my phone's video feed froze. The drone stopped responding to my controller, but I didn't panic about the [Safe Flight] feature. The drone should return home automatically when the signal is lost. Guess what didn't happen. To my dismay, the drone continued to function! It flew over the tree line at the end of my driveway and disappeared. I quickly ran after him and tried to use the controller to determine the distance to the drone. I began to realize that the distance reading didn't change no matter how close or how far I ran. After about an hour I stopped looking. On my first flight, the drone took off and disappeared. I'm not sure if it's just bad luck, but without a drone I can't tell if there was a mechanical failure. Don't trust the automatic fallback setting. it could cost you your drone.
