They serve to secure the strap where it is.

Ability to attach a strap where there isn't one, but there are loops for the strap. You just need to know in advance which color to choose. I chose silver and my bracelet had brass colored hardware. I had to color tweak them a bit. It was my fault for not buying them after the strap arrived or asking what color the strap hardware was beforehand.
