Do not assemble this stand without a rubber mallet. A hammer will damage it even if you try to use a bumper to protect the finish. This is a metal plastic insert. The metal literally shaves off some excess plastic as it moves. Assembly requires many hammer blows. About 10 minutes after assembly, I heard one of the plastic connectors in the tube crackle. While that seems like a good thing, that one cheap detail makes everything cheap. I think it should be under $30 as it is disposable. There are two very similar parts so make sure you identify all of the parts and read all of the instructions before you begin. I really like this stand. It's compact and looks clean. The tray on the underside is simply inserted, so it cannot be removed if desired. Too bad the manufacturer decided to use plastic connectors instead of something stiffer.
