Review on πŸ”Š Klipsch R-4B II Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer by Sandra Price

Still Relevant in 2020

There is a dizzying array of soundbars to choose from, ranging in price from $60 to $1000-1500 and up. There are some downsides, but I didn't want to shell out for 1k if I didn't have to. Then I discovered the Klipsch R-4B II soundbar with wireless subwoofer. In the $150-$200 range, this was exactly what I was looking for in terms of an entry-level but high-end soundbar. Let's talk about the sound first. It sounds great. Some reviewers find the sound too bright, but I don't think so. The subwoofer is a must and gives this system the perfect balance. This is a smaller subwoofer and while it delivers a decent amount of bass, you won't get as much rumble as you'd get from a 10-inch woofer. However, the combination of soundbar and subwoofer sounds great and the sound even fills a large room. Movies and sports sound great, and TV is great. The music is okay, maybe not on par with other more modern (and expensive) soundbars, but not bad either. The soundbar pairs with your phone via Bluetooth, and you can easily switch the source from Bluetooth to TV and back again. The surround sound mode is great for football/sports but not much else to be honest. There is a mode to improve dialogue, but I never found it necessary. There's also a night mode to turn off the subwoofer if you want to play with your neighbors after 10pm. Keep in mind that the speakers will automatically turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity, but *should* turn on automatically if your TV does. The panel can handle Dolby Digital, which is compressed, but considering it's only a 2.1 system, it's better to use uncompressed PCM. This is not a modern soundbar and does not support Dolby Atmos or similar formats. R-4B II connects to TV via optical cable; It doesn't have HDMI as that bar is almost six years old. This means that when you change the volume on the TV you can't see where the volume is and you can't adjust any settings on the TV other than the audio format. The panel pairs fairly easily with your DirecTV/wired remote, but not with my Samsung Smart Remote, nor does it show up as a device in the Samsung TV menu. Again, this isn't surprising for a soundbar of this age, but if you've got a new Samsung TV you'll need to adjust the volume with either the wired remote or the R-4B II remote. The supplied remote control can control all functions. Soundbar features as well as subwoofer volume so you can easily adjust everything until you get the sound exactly how you want it. To quickly summarize the pros and cons: Pros β€’ Sounds great and fills the whole room β€’ Works with your wired remote β€’ Quality build and sound at a lower price. Cons β€’ No HDMI β€’ Limited audio formats β€’ Doesn't work well with my Samsung TV or Samsung remote. Conclusion. This is an entry-level soundbar. it's older It doesn't have all the bells and whistles that a more modern soundbar has, and for some people this will be a deal breaker, especially with limited audio formats (Dolby Digital or PCM). However, the sound quality is excellent. . It includes a subwoofer and unless you need other features it's just a steal at the current price. I wish I could give it 3.5 stars because it gets old fast, but the sound quality and price make it too good to downgrade to 3, so I'm giving it 4 stars. Klipsch makes good products and this one is no exception.
