Doesn't go with the Klipsch name.

I've always been a Klipsch fan. I have a full Reference Series surround sound system in my entertainment room, so naturally when I decided to buy a soundbar for the master bed I went with Klipsch. Unfortunately, this soundbar didn't live up to Klipsch's excellent reputation. The sound just wasn't great. No midrange, dirty base and honestly the sound doesn't get any better than my TV's built-in speaker. While I wasn't expecting audiophile quality for $200, I was expecting more than what thisโ€ฆ

Remote control and Fire TV issues.

Using this with a Fire TV may interfere with the remote controls. The Klipsch remote will force movies being played by any of the apps to fast forward, rewind etc when you try to change the volume. The Klipsch remote can also change input. Revain remote control with volume change. Sometimes it freezes when turning up the volume. I manually changed the volume on the soundbar while streaming. It works fine if you use a different input on the TV. I contacted support and they weren't very helpfulโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

Great sound companies don't always make the best soundbar

Sound was good but no mid range; it's all ups and downs. It sounded pretty nice though. Soundkeepers deliver, but it's clear that soundbars aren't their forte. Next, the remote control is the worst. You have to be close enough to the bar for this to work, you might as well be pushing the buttons. Very disappointed. Finally, and this was the proverbial drop that broke the camel's back, the Bluetooth connection is terrible. Happens all the time, regardless of distance b/n bars and streamingโ€ฆ

Good if you don't want to use Dolby Digital

If you don't want to use Dolby Digital, the soundbar is pretty good. But who wouldn't want to use Dolby, right? And when you do that, you experience a terrible lag. I was worried it was just me, but after looking around a bit, it's clear that this is an issue with the Klipsch soundbar in general. Klipsch uses a weak Dolby decoder, resulting in poor audio latency. In theory, you can overcome this by adjusting the delay on the source device, but even that won't work - the amount of delay dependsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Quick Change
Cons
  • Infinitely sluggish

Still Relevant in 2020

There is a dizzying array of soundbars to choose from, ranging in price from $60 to $1000-1500 and up. There are some downsides, but I didn't want to shell out for 1k if I didn't have to. Then I discovered the Klipsch R-4B II soundbar with wireless subwoofer. In the $150-$200 range, this was exactly what I was looking for in terms of an entry-level but high-end soundbar. Let's talk about the sound first. It sounds great. Some reviewers find the sound too bright, but I don't think so. Theโ€ฆ
