This flash was intended to be a quick/cheap replacement for the NikonSB400 which was lost on the spot. The build quality leaves something to be desired, although I haven't used it long enough to speak of its durability. However, the flash performance is excellent. Very happy with the built in diffuser. A big caveat is that this is a battery powered bear. Charge times are slow (depending on batteries used and discharging) as another reviewer pointed out, but I expected this and am not complaining; but it eats batteries. Out of interest, I tested the flash with normal carbon batteries. The recycle time was over 25 seconds and I was only able to get 3 shots for the set of 'new' promotional batteries I was using. Lesson: Buy nickel hydride batteries. I bought 6 nickel hydrides and a charger ($25 extra). I used all three sets of batteries (and had to use a "backup" set of alkaline batteries) to get about 100 shots in one night shot. I was grateful that I had the foresight to buy rechargeable batteries. In short you get what you pay for and I have no regrets but once I have more money to spend on photography I will look for something better and cheaper. eats battery, and leave that flash just in case
