Review on πŸš— Chevy HHR Passenger Side Tail Light Assembly Replacement - Top-Quality Solution by David Reyes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Straight fit with thicker outer padding

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada where the desert heat is nice. The tail light bulb blew last week. Simple operation, remove access panel, grasp tail light socket, twist and remove. NOT CORRECT! The seal between the housing and the lamp base melted, making it impossible to remove the base without damaging the lamp base. Neither for love nor for money could I separate the lamp socket from the lamp body. options? 1) Dealer - my wife did this and it cost $40 for a smelly tail light bulb! 2) New lamp housing with lamp socket - select this option here at Revain. Got mine today for the passenger side. Disassembled the access cover (again) and removed the three 10mm chassis nuts that held the chassis studs. Please be careful at this stage of the exchange! There is a large gap between the outer body panel and the rear quarter inner hardware. If you drop a nut and it falls into this slot, it will be gone until the end of time. I got up and worked like an idiot (until the lightbulb the salesman gave me blew out). Total exchange time including a water break is 15 minutes. I did this very slowly, taking extra care not to lose any of the mounting nuts. I cannot stress this point enough. You must reinstall all three nuts to hold this tail light securely. What I liked: * Direct replacement from the factory - nuts and bolts are correctly positioned to fit the OEM (black plastic) mounting bracket. * Crystal clear red taillight lens. Again * Improved/thicker rubber spacer between taillight housing and body panel * 3057 bulb included in new taillight assembly What could be better: * Thick spacer from lens housing to body, creating a gap between body and taillight assembly *This gap is entirely from the gasket Hidden to body but you can see the seal* Taillight bulb cracked straight from the factory - blew out in seconds* Blown on first test use - 'No Name' bulb was installed with this taillight assembly. After removing the old taillight, I used pliers to separate the cartridge from the housing. With a little force I was able to loosen the connection between the rear light housing and the seal of the lamp holder. Bad engineering from GM. I posted some photos of the process. The last was the original taillight assembly after removal. Side by side - they are identical except for the lens tint. UV damage explains this. Easy to work with the right parts. I like this lamp housing except for what could have been better listed above. I recommend it as a replacement part for your HHR. ********** 08/21/2018 - Update. this lamp housing. I checked this morning and found that it's a little loose. Pull out the access cover and tighten the locknuts. He squeezed the thick seal even more. It now has the same clearance around the lens barrel and body part as on the driver's side. Looks great and works great. I still recommend this lamp assembly if needed.
